8/13 12:54: Sources close to Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times say the Braves have yet to approach the Mariners about Figgins.

8/13 07:22: Now that Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones is out for the season with a torn ACL, the team is scrambling to see what they can do as they head into the final months before the playoffs. The team could fill the position internally with Brooks Conrad, Omar Infante, Troy Glaus or Eric Hinske. However there may be some promising players that the Braves could acquire before the August 31 deadline to finalize playoff rosters, according to Bill Shanks of FOXSportsSouth.com.

Shanks suggests that the Braves could consider Houston Astros’ Pedro Feliz. Feliz is a free agent this winter and is due only $1.4 million the rest of the season. His bat is slowing down, but he still has the glove to play third base.

The Chicago Cubs’ Aramis Ramirez could be available, and the Cubs are in sell-off mode and have said that they could continue cleaning house this month.

The Braves could also go after Arizona Diamondbacks’ Mark Reynolds. Reynolds is signed through at least 2012 with a team option for 2013, so he’ll be have to be a long-term option, but Shanks said the Braves had interest earlier in the season in him.

Edwin Encarnacion from the Toronto Blue Jays could be available. He’s hitting .242 with 12 home runs and 32 RBIs.

Atlanta reportedly had interest in Seattle Mariners’ Chone Figgins before the trade deadline. Shanks thinks the Braves could “kick the tires” on him.
