Sport Illustrated’s Jon Heyman says Adrian Gonzalez is now a member of the Boston Red Sox. A deal is done and a press conference is expected on Monday. Heyman later adds that no announcement regarding a contract extension will be made now, but the sides have common grounds on the parameters for an extension. The Sox will not want to execute an extension until they get a good look at Gonzalez’s health during the Spring. The sides will add about seven-years and $23 million per season to Gonzalez’s bank account.

The names that were involved in the trade as of Saturday that were going to be shipped to San Diego included Casey Kelly, Anthony Rizzo and Reymond Fuentes, and Heyman confirmed that the prospects will remain the same.

Just minutes prior to Heyman’s announcement on Twitter, there were several reporters (including Heyman) saying that the trade from the San Diego Padres to the Boston Red Sox with an extension could still happen. Heyman said that despite the negotiation window coming and going, Major League Baseball has leniency in letting the deadline slide with deals of this magnitude.
