In a Tweet by Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated, the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays are interested in free agent outfielder Andruw Jones. Earlier this week, Heyman reported that the Yankees had initiated talks with Jones. The team is looking for a right-handed hitting outfielder that could complement Marcus Thames.

A source close to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News adds that the Yankees have gone as far as speaking with Jones’ agent, Scott Boras.  Jones appears to be the Yankees top choice for the outfield, but they’re still apart on the money, says Heyman.

Free agent Johnny Damon is also a possibility for both teams. Damon’s agent, Boras, has maintained his client’s interest in returning to the Bronx.

“As Johnny has said he is more than willing to return to New York,” the agent recently said.

Boras could also be speaking with other teams about Damon’s services. The Angels are desperately in need of offense, so Damon could find more playing time in Los Angeles than in New York.
