According to KPIX-TV (via Andrew Baggarly of Comcast Sports Nets), the Giants have a “deal in place” for Phillies outfielder Hunter Pence, pending ownership approval. Baggarly who checked with his sources, follows up with a tweet later stating that Giants VP Bobby Evans texted him  stating that there’s “no truth to the rumor” of a deal for Pence.

Yes, the Giants could use another bat fresh off a sweep at the hands of the division rivals, the Dodgers, but I don’t think Pence who is struggling mightily this season is not the right answer. Pence is also under team control for one more season and will make around $12mm through arbitration next season. The Giants need to save some money for the offseason as they will try to resign Melky Cabrera who is having a breakout year and will look to cash in.

In 396 at bats, Pence is hitting .268/.333/.444 with 17 home runs and 59 RBIs.

As the trade deadline approaches, rumors will continue to fly with most not being true or not materializing into a potential trade.
