There have been a lot of trade rumors surrounding Padres’ Carlos Quentin and Huston Street, but the truth is that the team would like to sign both players to long-term deals according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.

He says that the team will probably try to make a push for both of them sometime this month and that both players would like to stay with San Diego. But as Heyman points out, given the fact that the Padres “can’t blow away star players with dollars,” they will be forced to at least consider trading one or both players if they can’t sign them to long-term deals.

Street, 28, is 2-0 with a 1.07 ERA, 0.0 HR/9, 2.8 BB/9 and 12.1 SO/9 in 25.1 innings with the Padres. Quentin, 29, is hitting .262/.386/.500 with 8 HR’s, 21 RBI’s and a 149 OPS+ in 158 plate appearances with the Padres.
