Kazuo Matsui (Kaz) will be leaving the states and returning to Japan to play for the Rakuten Eagles, this according to the Denver Post. The switch hitting Matsui played seven season in the majors from 2004-2010, which included stints with the New York Mets, Colorado Rockies and Houston Astros.

According to Thomas Harding of MLB.com, the Colorado Rockies have and former Astros second baseman Kazuo Matsui have agreed to a Minor League contract pending a physical.

Thomas Harding of MLB.com speculates that Kazuo Matsui could find his way back to the Colorado Rockies if he clears waivers. Harding says, “if he clears waivers, it’s fair to say the Rockies have reason to be intrigued.”

According to John Perrotto of BaseballProspectus.com, Houston has released infielder Kaz Matsui and will beckon Oswaldo Navarro from Triple-A Round Rock. Matsui was the first Japanese infielder in the majors, breaking in with the Mets in 2003 after an eminent career with the Seibu Lions.
