The San Diego Padres have claimed outfielder Jeremy Hermida on outright waivers from the Cincinnati Reds, according to a Tweet by Corey Brock of MLB.com. In a corresponding move, the team designated catcher Kyle Phillips for assignment.

According to Jordan Bastian of MLB.com, the Toronto Blue Jays have traded minor league catcher Kyle Phillips to the San Diego Padres in exchange for a player to be named later.
Phillips, 26, made his Major League debut in 2009. He played in 5 games and has a .278 batting average (5-for-18).
