The Pittsburgh Pirates have claimed infielder Brandon Wood off waivers from the Angels reports Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports. Rosenthal adds that Wood will probably get a shot at shortstop with the Pirates. They are apparently not happy with Ronny Cedeno. Earlier today, we learned that the Pirates were “almost surely” placing a claim on Wood. The Angels [...]

According to Colin Dunlap of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pirates “will almost surely” place a waiver claim on infielder Brandon Wood. The window to file a waiver claim on Wood closes today at noon. Bob Nightengale of USA Today tweeted earlier this week that there’s no way that the Angels infielder will clear waivers. Nightengale pointed [...]

Los Angeles Angels infielder Erick Aybar underwent an MRI on Wednesday morning and it revealed a slight strain on his side, according to Mike Scioscia (via Kevin Baxter of the Los Angeles Times). “Right now we’re hoping it’s not a [disabled-list] situation,” he said. Ayber is likely of Friday’s home opener in Anaheim, but he could be [...]

Tom Singer of MLB.com talks about 16 players that could benefit from a change of scenery via the July 31st non-waiver Trade Deadline. He’s dubbed them the Bittersweet 16: Mike Lowell, Boston Red Sox No revelations here for the Prisoner of Yawkey Way. He was ticketed out of town when Boston signed free agent Adrian Beltre, [...]

Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe turns our attention to possible trade candidates. Here’s his summary: Cliff Lee — With him becoming a free agent at season’s end, two things could happen. The Mariners could sell him off to the bidder that unloads the most prospects, or they will try to sign him, feeling he’s a [...]
